Ngamiland Anti-Human Trafficking Network

The Basics: The Ngamiland Anti-Human Trafficking Network (NAHTN) is an anti-slavery group based in northwestern Botswana. It is a multisectoral network of district leaders and stakeholders from government offices and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). NAHTN’s mission is to prevent the incidence of human trafficking in Botswana through positive multisectoral interventions and education beginning from Ngamiland led by a networking forum of all key stakeholders involved with the protection of the rights of the human person.

Project Accomplishments

  • The Network ignited a district conversation around human trafficking and children’s rights, leading to the inception of two new human rights projects.
  • NAHTN increased the percentage of target communities’ ability to define and explain human trafficking from 32% to 82%.
  • The Network trained 128 district stakeholders (prosecutors, social workers, policer officers, etc.) to implement Botswana’s Anti-Human Trafficking Act.
  • NAHTN sensitized 361 district stakeholders and community members about human trafficking and Botswana’s Anti-Human Trafficking Act.
